2016 TAHN Board Election- Candidate Message #1

December 17, 2016

This year the Texas Association of Hostage Negotiators Regional Vice President Region V position has two candidates running. Please see the below from candidate Victor Rivera.

Dear fellow TAHN members,

Please consider keeping me as your Region 5 Vice President.
And, thank-you, it's been a privilege to be a member of your association's Board of Directors.

My purpose for wanting to continue in the Region 5 Vice President's position is to continue to share information either by classroom presentations or by other medium. As a board member, I've taken part in bringing some of the best presenters in our field to our conferences. I hope you had a chance to attend the San Antonio conference.

I currently serve as a volunteer trainer and advisor for the Midland Police Department's CNU.  And, I'm still a member of the regional Critical Incident Stress Management team and take part in DPS's CIRS/Peer region 4 team.

I retired from the Midland Police Department after 38 years.  I have been a trained negotiator since 1987, and was the team commander from the early 90's until my retirement a year ago.

I've enjoyed giving back to our profession through training. My emphasizes has been education and training of not only negotiators, but also of first responders who will be the first ones at chaotic scenes; including Dispatch, and correctional facilities personnel. I have facilitated and taught Basic classes and shorter classes not only in Midland, but in different cities/towns of the region and other parts of the state. My goal has been to make TAHN's resources available to to anyone who needs them, including the smaller agencies in the region.

Thank you for your consideration,

Victor Rivera, Lt. (Ret)
Midland Police Department
